Kim Kardashian is pulling back the curtain on her tumultuous marriage to Kanye West, describing their relationship as “toxic” and revealing shocking details about the rapper’s erratic behavior — including giving away their luxury cars during manic episodes.
The 44-year-old SKIMS founder opened up during her Oct. 15 debut on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, reflecting on her marriage to the “Stronger” artist and her life since their divorce.
“I do have a problem of only remembering the good,” Kim admitted. “I’m a really forgiving person, but I really haven’t dated like that to have those kinds of toxic relationships since I’ve been divorced.”
She explained that with age has come more emotional clarity and self-respect:
“When you get older, you just don’t tolerate that s—. You don’t have time.”
Kim on Kanye’s Mental Health and the Breaking Point
Kim’s divorce from Kanye, 48, was finalized in November 2022, ending nearly eight years of marriage after she filed in 2021. While she’s since moved on quietly — her only public relationship post-divorce being with Pete Davidson — Kim didn’t hold back when reflecting on what led to the split.
“People can say there were signs, and maybe I wasn’t paying attention to them,” she said. “When someone has their first mental break, you wanna be supportive… but when they’re not willing to make changes that are healthy, it becomes really hard to continue in a relationship that can be toxic.”
Kim admitted that raising four kids — North (12), Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (6) — made it harder to walk away.
“When you have kids, it’s harder to leave than it is to stay. But once my mental health starts to get affected and I can’t parent the way I need to, I had to save myself to be a better mom.”
Ultimately, she said her decision was about protecting her peace and setting an example for her children.
“When everyone’s older, they’ll understand and see that all,” she said.
“I’d Come Home and the Cars Were Gone”
While Kim didn’t specify when the worst moments occurred, she recalled Kanye’s unpredictable behavior and its emotional and financial toll.
“Just not feeling safe — not even physically, just emotionally or financially,” she said. “I’d come home and we had like five Lamborghinis… and they’d all be gone if he was in an episode. I’d be like, ‘Where’s my new car?’ and it would be, ‘Oh, he gave them away to his friends.’”
“I didn’t know what you were gonna get when you wake up,” she added. “That’s a really unsettling feeling.”
Moving Forward — and Looking for Love Again
Despite everything, Kim says she doesn’t view the marriage as a failure.
“An over-a-decade relationship with four beautiful children is not a failure,” she said.
These days, her daughter North West has been encouraging her to get back out there.
“She just said to me the other day, ‘Mom, you’ve got to get remarried. You’re getting too old and no one is gonna deal with this,’” Kim laughed. “She says it to me all the time.”
While Kim says she’s taking her time before dating again, her candid reflection offers rare insight into what it was like living alongside one of music’s most unpredictable geniuses — and why she ultimately chose peace over chaos.
