Drake Clears Copyright Case After Photographer Dismisses Lawsuit With Prejudice

Drake has secured a significant legal win after a copyright lawsuit tied to his “What Did I Miss?” music video was officially dismissed.

Back in November, Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti filed suit against the Toronto superstar, accusing him of direct copyright infringement. Galimberti claimed a brief scene in Drake’s July-released video — specifically a 14-second shot featuring a stylized arrangement of firearms — closely mirrored imagery from his photography project The Ameriguns.

The lawsuit also made broader allegations, suggesting Drake attempted to draw parallels between controversies they had both faced. Galimberti previously came under scrutiny for a Balenciaga campaign he photographed, while Drake was accused of similar misconduct in lyrics from Kendrick Lamar during their highly publicized feud. Galimberti’s filing argued that Drake sought to imply he would be similarly “exonerated” in the court of public opinion.

Now, that legal challenge is officially over.

According to an exclusive report from AllHipHop’s Grouchy Greg Watkins, the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice, meaning Galimberti is permanently barred from refiling the complaint. Each party will cover their own legal costs. While it remains unclear whether a private settlement was reached, the dismissal marks a decisive victory for Drake.

The news arrives as anticipation continues to build for Drake’s upcoming ninth studio album, ICEMAN. Though no official release date has been announced, speculation suggests the project could arrive sooner rather than later — and with this lawsuit behind him, Drake appears free to focus fully on the rollout ahead.
