Cardi B forcefully shut down a viral and false claim alleging that her father was arrested for attempted rape in 1993, issuing a fiery response on X (formerly Twitter) that appeared to also take aim at Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty.
The rumor, which circulated online without evidence, prompted Cardi to respond directly and emphatically, making it clear she would not tolerate attacks on her family.
“First thing first, my dad never been arrested in this country,” Cardi wrote. “My dad is an immigrant from the Dominican Republic… he would be deported if he committed such a disgusting crime!!”
She continued by warning those spreading the rumor that she was prepared to expose real cases and real documentation if the harassment didn’t stop.
“I don’t know why y’all like playing these games just for you to be fake mad when I post who got those real mugshots, real evidence, AND REAL cases for rape,” she added. “Stop playing wit me and my family and leave me the fck alone fr before I start some sht today.”
While Cardi did not name Nicki directly, many fans interpreted the comments as a pointed reference to Kenneth Petty’s past conviction for attempted rape in 1995 — a topic that has resurfaced during past flare-ups between the two rap superstars.
Fans Rally Behind Cardi
Support quickly poured in from Cardi’s supporters, many of whom encouraged her to take legal action against those spreading the claim.
“These people lie to make themselves feel good,” one fan wrote. “Sue their ass for defamation,” another added.
The incident arrives amid renewed tension between Cardi and Nicki, whose feud reignited earlier this fall following the release of Cardi’s album Am I The Drama?. The back-and-forth escalated rapidly, with personal jabs, family references, and online trolling dominating the discourse.
Ongoing Scrutiny Around Cardi’s Personal Life
The situation also comes as Cardi’s current partner, Stefon Diggs, faces his own legal controversy. Diggs is currently dealing with allegations of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery brought by his former private chef. Cardi previously defended Diggs in a since-deleted post, stating she had never been told of any inappropriate conduct.
For now, Cardi’s message is clear: false allegations about her family cross a line — and she’s not backing down.
