Pooh Shiesty is officially free. The Memphis rapper, born Lontrell Donell Williams Jr., has been released early from federal prison after serving roughly three years of his five-year sentence for a 2020 firearm-related charge.
Details of his release
According to reports confirmed on October 6, 2025, Pooh Shiesty’s release came several months ahead of schedule — his original release date was April 2026. He will now spend time in a halfway house, transitioning back into society under supervised conditions.
News of his release spread quickly online after videos and posts began circulating on social media.
A viral post from user @big_business_ on X (formerly Twitter) read: “Pooh Shiesty just got released from federal prison early,” accompanied by footage believed to show people celebrating his return.
The U.S. Bureau of Prisons has not yet issued an official statement.
Background on the case
Pooh Shiesty was sentenced to 63 months (just over five years) in 2022 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess firearms in furtherance of violent and drug-trafficking crimes.
The charges stemmed from an October 2020 shooting in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida, where Shiesty was accused of aiming a gun at one of two men during a botched deal that ended with both being shot.
Career highlights
Before his incarceration, Shiesty skyrocketed to fame with his 2020 hit “Back in Blood” featuring Lil Durk, which became a street anthem and helped him secure a Best New Hip Hop Artist nomination at the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards.
He was signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records and became one of the most promising voices in Memphis rap before his career was cut short by legal troubles.
What’s next for Pooh Shiesty
Now that he’s free, fans are already anticipating new music from the rapper, who hasn’t released a project since his debut mixtape Shiesty Season in 2021. If social media buzz is any indication, his comeback could be one of the biggest in hip-hop this year.
