Young Thug’s brand-new album UY Scuti is already making noise, but one of the most talked-about moments comes from Cardi B’s verse on “On The News.” Even DJ Akademiks, who often clashes with Cardi, couldn’t help but give her props.
During a recent livestream, Akademiks stopped mid-show to call Cardi directly and praise her performance.
“Cardi, I hate to do this to you, it’s Ak. This is how you rap. I just want to tell you. I don’t know why you’re going that crazy. I’m listening to Thug’s album and I heard your verse and I said ‘this is how I like you to rap.’ … You carried that n**a lowkey.”*
Cardi B and DJ Akademiks show mutual respect
Cardi acknowledged their complicated history but agreed there’s respect on both sides:
“Because we be having disagreements,” she said. “But I’ve got to see it both ways.”
Ak also congratulated her on the release of her sophomore album Am I The Drama?, which dropped last week.
Cardi B’s ongoing rap feuds
Not everyone has been as complimentary. Cardi’s latest project sparked major controversy after she delivered sharp disses aimed at BIA and JT. The former City Girls rapper quickly fired back on X (formerly Twitter), trashing Cardi and her relationship with Stefon Diggs in a string of fiery posts.
“That sht soooooo weak she gone need Jesus to help write when I’m done with her dirty ugly mash potatoes ass having ass!!!”* JT tweeted. “Ewwww dirty non talented RAT!!!!!”
Cardi, however, has made it clear she’s standing firm. In a new interview with Hollywood Unlocked, she said:
“They felt like I was an easy target. I’m not a target and I’m not easy neither. I let them think that they had it, but just remember who started with who.”
Between UY Scuti and her own album rollout, Cardi is once again dominating headlines — whether it’s for her music, her bars, or the drama that comes with them.
