Tory Lanez Fined $20K for Refusing to Answer Questions in Megan Thee Stallion Deposition

Tory Lanez is facing new legal fallout — this time not from his criminal conviction, but from his behavior in a civil case tied to Megan Thee Stallion. A federal judge has found Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, in contempt of court for refusing to cooperate during a jailhouse deposition connected to Megan’s defamation and cyberstalking lawsuit against blogger Milagro Gramz.

According to a ruling filed Sunday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisette M. Reid ordered Lanez to pay $20,000 to Megan’s legal team as a penalty for obstructing multiple attempts to depose him. She also sanctioned Lanez’s attorney, Crystal Morgan, for her conduct during the session.

Judge: Lanez Was Defiant From the Start

The contempt ruling details what the judge called “openly defiant” conduct during Lanez’s third deposition, held Friday. When the session began, Lanez allegedly asked what would happen if he refused to answer questions. After being warned he could face fines, he reportedly replied:

“Whatever the fines are, I’ll pay them. I’m a millionaire. I don’t care.”

The judge says Lanez later stormed out, accused Megan’s lawyer of lying, and told him to “calm down.”

Refused to Answer Basic Questions

Despite being a key witness in Megan’s lawsuit against Gramz (real name Milagro Cooper), Lanez refused to answer fundamental questions, including:

  • How he met Milagro Gramz
  • Whether he communicated with her
  • Whether they exchanged DMs, texts, or Instagram messages

These questions are central to Megan’s claim that Cooper spread “vicious and hateful rumors” about her while allegedly acting as Lanez’s “paid surrogate.”

Because Lanez refused to participate meaningfully, Judge Reid recommended that jurors be explicitly instructed that he was properly questioned — and chose not to answer.

A Pattern of Obstruction

This isn’t the first time Lanez has been reprimanded in this lawsuit. In April, he was ordered to pay Megan’s legal fees after pretending not to know basic facts and acting combative during questioning — the first time he had been examined under oath since being convicted.

Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

Jury Selection Begins

The contempt finding coincided with the start of jury selection in Megan’s defamation lawsuit against Gramz. The outcome of Lanez’s deposition — and his refusal to testify — may play a significant role in the upcoming trial.
