Rod Wave is taking his tour troubles to court. The Florida rapper has officially challenged Grizzly Touring in an ongoing $27 million legal battle tied to his canceled “Last Lap” tour, accusing the company of trying to force him into unfair contractual obligations.
According to legal filings from October 12, Rod Wave’s team claims that Grizzly Touring is using “undue pressure” to make him fulfill performances that were postponed from last year. The “Last Lap” tour was originally scheduled for late 2024 but has since been delayed into 2025 amid what Rod describes as “logistical hurdles, production setbacks, and routing conflicts.”
Rod’s attorneys argue that the tour’s original structure became “untenable” and that the artist should be allowed to move forward with his own independently promoted run — the “Redemption Experience” tour, which will coincide with his next album release.
In the filing, Rod’s lawyer James Sammataro described Grizzly’s insistence as exploitative:
“Forcing Rod to perform under this outdated contract is akin to indentured servitude,” Sammataro said. “He no longer trusts Grizzly to manage his music or represent his brand.”
Rod is asking the court to void his existing contract with Grizzly and to grant him permission to self-promote his future shows.
Grizzly Touring’s Response
Grizzly Touring has fired back with a $27 million countersuit, claiming that Rod Wave’s tour cancellations and rescheduling breaches cost the company millions in lost revenue and advance payments.
The company says Rod’s refusal to perform is a clear breach of contract, arguing that he cannot simply walk away from commitments already funded and planned. Grizzly also alleged that only 12 out of 35 scheduled shows took place and that several dates were rescheduled without Rod’s prior consent.
Grizzly’s filings further assert that Rod’s claims — calling their booking terms “unilateral and onerous” — do not legally free him from his financial responsibilities.
What’s at Stake
Rod Wave’s countersuit goes beyond finances, citing reputational harm caused by Grizzly’s alleged mismanagement. His team maintains that the company’s actions have disrupted his career momentum and strained his relationship with fans.
The outcome of this high-profile dispute could have a ripple effect across the touring industry — potentially reshaping how artists and promoters handle postponed or canceled shows in the wake of post-pandemic scheduling challenges.
As of now, both parties remain firm in their positions, and the court’s decision will determine whether Rod can move forward independently with his “Redemption Experience” tour — or if Grizzly will collect millions in damages.
