Diddy is trying to shape his future from behind bars. The embattled mogul has formally asked Judge Arun Subramanian to recommend he serve the remainder of his 50-month prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey.
Diddy’s request
In a letter submitted by attorney Teny Geragos, Diddy’s legal team argued that Fort Dix would be the best placement to support his rehabilitation and safety.
“The facility is ideal to help him address drug abuse issues and maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts,” the filing stated.
Safety concerns behind bars
The request follows growing concerns about Diddy’s safety in custody. His longtime lawyer Mark Geragos recently revealed on the 2 Angry Men podcast that “someone already planned to shank him in jail.”
“He’s going to have a target on his back no matter where he goes,” Geragos warned.
Why FCI Fort Dix
Located in Burlington County, New Jersey, Fort Dix is one of the country’s largest low-security prisons. It has housed other notable names, including Real Housewives stars Teresa and Joe Giudice. The facility is known for offering substance abuse programs and family visitation opportunities — both key factors in Diddy’s request.
While Judge Subramanian can recommend a specific facility, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) ultimately decides where inmates serve their sentences.

Diddy has already spent over a year at MDC Brooklyn, where he’s awaiting transfer to a long-term facility. With just under three years left on his sentence, a move to New Jersey could offer a safer and more rehabilitative environment — if federal authorities approve it.
