Cam’ron has taken legal action against J. Cole, alleging breach of agreement over their 2024 collaboration “Ready ’24.” According to TMZ, the Harlem rap icon claims he contributed to the song under a verbal agreement that Cole would either collaborate on one of Cam’s future projects or appear on his sports talk show It Is What It Is, co-hosted with Mase. Over a year later, Cam says Cole hasn’t honored either promise — and now he wants the courts to step in.
In the lawsuit, Cam’ron reveals that he and J. Cole first recorded “Ready ’24” back in 2022 and maintained communication for nearly two years afterward. Despite multiple follow-ups, Cole allegedly continued to decline invitations to appear on It Is What It Is, citing scheduling conflicts. Feeling shortchanged, Cam now argues that he was never properly compensated for his work and is demanding legal recognition as the co-author of the track — a move that would allow him to collect royalties and other profits from the song’s success.
At the time of writing, J. Cole has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. The track in question appeared on Cole’s surprise 2024 mixtape Might Delete Later, released while he continues work on his long-awaited studio album The Fall Off. Though fans hoped the new project signaled that the album was near completion, Cole later clarified through his blog The Algorithm that no release was imminent.
“Ib told me some people was thinking this blog meant an album was about to drop,” Cole wrote. “Nahhh. Not exactly. When it’s time for something you will know. This is not that. I just wanted a place to share documentaries I be watching on YouTube and songs I f—k with.”
The lawsuit marks one of the more surprising industry clashes of 2025, pitting two respected lyricists — one from Harlem, one from North Carolina — against each other over an alleged creative and professional misunderstanding. For now, all eyes are on how J. Cole and his Dreamville team will respond.
