Cardi B’s civil assault trial took a bizarre turn on its second day (Aug. 26), with lawyers firing off questions that left fans and observers scratching their heads. The case stems from allegations made by Emani Ellis, a former Beverly Hills security guard, who claims Cardi assaulted her during an encounter back in 2018.
According to legal reporter Meghann Cuniff, day two of testimony saw one lawyer ask Cardi B if her hair was “real.” The Bronx rapper, who sported a new blonde wig after rocking a pixie cut the day before, laughed before replying: “They’re wigs.”
The questioning didn’t stop there. The lawyer then asked if Cardi had any gang affiliations, a move quickly objected to by her legal team — an objection the judge sustained. Cardi’s lawyers previously argued that bringing up past claims, including alleged gang ties or her history as a stripper, could unfairly prejudice the jury.
The attorney even pressed Cardi about her nails, asking whether they were sharp and how long it takes to apply three-inch extensions. Cardi downplayed the suggestion, describing her nails as “opal-shaped” and under an inch long. She explained that depending on the material, long sets can take “a couple of hours” to put on.
Ellis has alleged that Cardi attacked her with sharp nails during their 2018 run-in. Cardi, however, insists she “never” touched Ellis. Her defense argues that Ellis, who was reportedly 240–250 pounds and wearing military boots at the time, was “belligerent” and tried to confront a then-pregnant Cardi, who had not yet revealed her first pregnancy publicly.
As the unusual line of questioning continues, the trial has become as much about Cardi B’s image and past as the actual assault allegations — with her legal team working to keep the focus on the facts of the case.
