Gucci Mane and his wife Keyshia Ka’oir are opening up about how they navigate the rapper’s mental health challenges together. During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, the couple discussed Gucci’s new memoir Episodes — and how Ka’oir helps him manage his schizophrenia when episodes arise.
Ka’oir explained that she’s learned to spot the early warning signs and has a system in place to protect both her husband and his privacy when those moments occur.
“I have a system,” she said. “I take his apps off his phone. First thing I do is delete Instagram. I delete everything. Even if I gotta change his password, I’m changing it because I don’t need the public to know he’s having an episode.”
Ka’oir added that her approach has helped prevent public incidents, explaining:
“You realize you haven’t known about any other episodes since September 13. That’s because I control that. Because you’re not going on Instagram, you’re not going on Twitter. It’s deleted. I control everything at home. And now, before the episodes come, I catch it. So that’s why he hasn’t had another one.”
Spotting the Signs
Ka’oir says she can sense when an episode is about to happen based on Gucci’s behavior.
“He don’t eat. He does not sleep,” she said. “He stops communicating with me and wants to be left alone — that’s when I know.”
The pair’s honesty about mental health marks a rare moment of vulnerability from the typically guarded couple. Gucci shared that these episodes have, at times, led to difficult situations, including moments when he gave away expensive items like jewelry.
“When I would come to my senses, I felt like my friends were taking advantage of me,” he admitted.
Comparisons to Kim & Kanye
During the conversation, Charlamagne Tha God compared Gucci’s revelations to Kim Kardashian’s recent comments about her ex-husband Kanye West. On the Call Her Daddy podcast, Kardashian said that West would give away their cars during his manic episodes — a habit Gucci said he related to.
The Memoir & Music
Gucci Mane’s memoir Episodes, released through Simon & Schuster earlier this month, dives deep into his mental health journey, his marriage, and other pivotal moments in his life — including the story behind his iconic ice cream cone face tattoo.
The book’s release coincides with his 17th studio album, also titled Episodes, featuring collaborations with Sexyy Red, OJ da Juiceman, Bossman Dlow, and more.
Through both his book and interviews, Gucci continues to emphasize the importance of self-awareness, healing, and strong support systems — with Keyshia Ka’oir standing firmly by his side every step of the way.
